Part-Time Barista at Lowertown

Lowertown is a coffee shop by morning and a bar by evening, housed in a converted 1930s garage on Ann Arbor's north side. We serve Hyperion coffee, local pastries, beer, cocktails, and the occasional strong opinion about espresso. We're looking for a part-time barista to join the team.

The job:

This is a morning-to-afternoon role — shifts run 7:30am to 4pm. You'll open with coffee service and close out the transition to the bar side of things. That means you're pulling shots, making drinks, running the register, keeping the space clean, and generally making sure everyone who walks in feels like they're in good hands.

You'll also learn a small cocktail list and be comfortable pouring beer and wine. We're a hybrid space, and the role reflects that.

What we're looking for:

Someone who takes the work seriously without taking themselves too seriously. You should be able to move with purpose behind the bar, hold a conversation at the register, and notice when a table on the patio needs clearing — all without being asked.

Specifically:

  • Provide warm, genuine hospitality to every person who comes through the door

  • Learn our espresso machine, systems, and quality standards

  • Work the POS quickly and accurately

  • Prep our house-made syrups following our guides, and pitch in on prep as needed

  • Stay active in the cafe and on the patio — pre-bussing, dishes, and maintaining the space throughout your shift

  • Handle side work and keep the bar area clean and organized

  • Execute a small cocktail list and pour beer and wine with care

  • Leave the ego at the door and work as part of the team for the good of Lowertown and our community
